How to Trade Safely

Follow these guidelines every time you buy or sell to make sure every transaction is smooth and secure.

01
Always Meet on Campus

Arrange all meetups at well-lit, busy campus locations — the library foyer, student union, or faculty common areas. Never agree to off-campus meetups with strangers.

02
Inspect Before You Pay

Always examine items in person before completing a payment. Our escrow system holds funds until you confirm receipt — use it. Never release payment before you're satisfied.

03
Keep Chat on Platform

Use PU-Connect's built-in messaging system for all communication. Avoid moving conversations to WhatsApp or SMS — our platform keeps records and can help resolve disputes.

04
Check Seller Ratings

Before buying, review the seller's rating, review history, and how long they've been on the platform. A healthy track record is a strong signal of trustworthiness.

05
Bring a Friend

For high-value transactions, bring a friend to the meetup. There's safety in numbers, and it's completely normal and accepted practice on campus.

06
Trust Your Gut

If something feels off — a price that's too good, a seller who's pushy, or a request to move off-platform — trust your instincts. It's always okay to walk away and report.

Watch Out

Red Flags to Watch Out For

These warning signs should prompt you to pause, reconsider, and report to our safety team.

Price Too Good to Be True

A brand-new laptop listed for GH₵ 200? If the price is dramatically below market value, it's likely a scam or stolen goods.

Urgency & Pressure Tactics

"Buy now or I'll sell to someone else in an hour." Legitimate sellers don't pressure you. High pressure is a manipulation tactic.

Requests to Go Off-Platform

If someone insists on moving to WhatsApp, Telegram, or a third-party payment link, this is a classic fraud signal. Decline and report.

Brand New Account, Suspicious Listing

An account registered yesterday with ten expensive listings and zero reviews should raise concern. Check the account's creation date.

Off-Campus Meetup Insistence

Any seller or buyer who insists on meeting outside the university campus — especially in unfamiliar areas — should be declined and reported.

Requests for Personal Information

No legitimate transaction requires your ID number, bank account details, or home address. Never share this information with another user.
